ApogeeAero® anti-corkscrewing rolling casing spacers.
Posted on Jul 17, 2025ApogeeAero® – the new series of anti-corkscrewing rollers – is designed to be deployed with casing spacers to isolate a casing pipe from the outer, host carrier pipe. Cost effective, even when compared to traditional casing spacers with runners, these new spacers offer a number of benefits:
- reduce the friction coefficient by 70% (0.2 to 0.06)
- reduce the force required to insert (pull/push)
- increase average installation speeds from 0.9 – 1.5m per minute to 4.5m or more per minute
- decrease installation time as no requirement for a guide
- typically, carrier pipe pushes are installed up to 7 times or faster than casing spacers with runners
- roller’s low profile allows for smaller casing to be used
- higher load strength allows for fewer rollers for a given load
Some of the above benefits have the potential to reduce project costs, e.g. in terms of fewer operatives’ hours, rental of plant etc.
The ApogeeAero® roller features an engineered, hardened bearing, axles and caster. Anti-corkscrewing technology not only does away with the risk of the casing pipe twisting during installation but also dispenses with the need for a guide.
These innovative anti-corkscrewing rollers are available in small, medium, large and extra-large, to handle dynamic loads up to 2700kg and static loads up to 5600kg per roller. FT Pipeline Systems can supply the ApogeeAero® roller to allow for pipe diameters from 10cm to 300cm or larger and can meet customer specifications with regards to carrier pipe application, e.g. positioning multiple carrier pipes within one casing pipe.
The benefits associated with our wheeled spacers used for insertion of pipe into host pipes apply to ApogeeAero® rollers too. You will undoubtedly recall that the insertion process eliminates the need for road closures, repeat excavation, removal of spoil, disruption to road users and pedestrians and emissions’ impact on the environment from queuing, idling vehicles, not to mention the need for air flow trenches to be dug every 100 metres.
