Gas Division Involved in Production of World’s First Hydrogen-Fired Clay Bricks

FTPS Gas Division has recently supplied a hydrogen pressure reducing station to brick specialists, Michelmersh, as part of their bid to produce the world’s first 100% hydrogen-fired clay bricks.

The project involves a feasibility study to replace natural gas with hydrogen in the brick making process as part of the UK’s pathway to net zero. Phase 1 demonstrated the viability of fuel switching at the clay brick production process at Michelmersh’s Freshfield Lane site.

FT Pipeline Systems designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a PRS skid (pictured above) supplying green electrolytic hydrogen from a 300bar bottle bank, regulating pressure down to 3 bar, which supplied the kiln used in the production of the bricks.

We are delighted to be part of these trials which aim to demonstrate that, as well as clay brick having zero operational carbon, they present the opportunity to significantly reduce clay brick’s embodied carbon by over 60%.

FTPS Gas Division designs, manufactures and commissions gas pressure control systems for natural gas, biogas, CNG and hydrogen from Class 2500 to millibar. We are committed to future-proofing your gas control assets for the hydrogen mix. We are assisting the decarbonisation aim with more efficient control and offering pure hydrogen systems and hydrogen pre-trimmed systems that ensure the future of methane / hydrogen mix without the need to replace existing non-hydrogen-ready control devices.
