Each of our divisions (steel pipes, water treatment, gas systems) offers a lunchtime presentation which takes place at your offices. If you have a group of colleagues who may be interested in one of these, you just need to provide a room and we will arrange lunch. For more information or to book a Lunch & Learn session, call 01543 416024 or email enquiries@ftpipelinesystems.co.uk

Utility Week Live continues to provide a good return on our investment and, as many readers will appreciate, taking a stand at any exhibition can be costly. Over the last 3 years FTPS has taken a stand at UWL and showcased each of our 4 divisions (steel pipes, lockable stop tap box lids, chemical dosing hose and gas pressure reducing stations). Interestingly, each year the divisions have fared differently. In 2017 our water treatment branch introduced a revolutionary new product on to the market – a pipe-in-pipe, flexible chemical dosing hose with built-in leak detection – PF Detect. The interest was huge and we came away with genuine enquiries that have since converted to a number of sales.
The stop tap box replacement locking lid is the product that started the company over 30 years ago and is widely used by many of the water authorities. Our lids come in a variety of shapes and sizes but have largely remained unchanged in the 3 decades they have been in use and so, when we have new products to focus on, it is often easy to overlook them. We did, however, ensure that the lids were featured in our pre-show marketing campaigns and a simple case study showing the massive annual savings made by Yorkshire Water put the locking lids back on people’s radar. We were told by a couple of water company representatives that they had come to Utility Week Live that year purely on the basis of visiting our stand to find out more about the humble locking lid!
In 2018 we found that, whilst the other divisions came away with a steady number of leads, it was the turn of our gas division to prove the most popular. A new exhibit – a custom-built pressure reducing station (PRS) complete with its own casing unit – attracted most interest. In the previous year we had exhibited individual components of the PRS but it was clear that visitors liked to see the complete skid. Armed with this knowledge, at the 2019 UWL show, we decided to take one of our rental PRS units which had recently returned from being on-site for 8 months. The skid measured 3m x 1.5m so took up a lot of space on the stand but the impact was phenomenal. Already interested parties were very impressed when they found out that this particular unit had been outside over winter, uncovered. The condition of it was testament to our high quality coating and testing regime.
FT Pipeline Systems’ core business for the last 20 years has been the supply of coated and lined steel water pipes and the 2019 Utility Week Live show was particularly beneficial for this sector. The ongoing HS2 work has required a lot of auger bore pipework for road, rail and river crossings and we have been involved in a number of these projects. We were therefore delighted to chat to one visitor to our stand who specifies the materials for large parts of the HS2 work and prior to attending the show, had not known of our existence.
Each year the exhibition organisers strive to reach a larger audience and continue to try and improve the show format with well attended talks and seminars. FT Pipeline Systems will be exhibiting again in 2020 and we look forward to seeing you there.
